# Magejutsu: recast any video on Mage

> Magejutsu recasts a video you already have: send the clip and photos of who or what replaces it, and the motion, camera, timing and sound stay as filmed.

Magejutsu edits a video instead of generating one. Give it a clip you already have and photos of who or what should be in it, and it rebuilds the cast and the scene while the performances, camera moves and timing stay as filmed. A director model watches your clip first and writes the edit for you.

## Overview

| Detail | |
| - | - |
| Type | Video |
| Origin | Mage model, available only on Mage |
| Models | Magejutsu, Magejutsu Lite, Magejutsu Feather |
| Availability | Gems on every plan |

## What it supports on Mage

| Feature | Support |
| - | - |
| Source video | Required, 4 to 30 seconds (15 on Lite and Feather) |
| Reference images | Yes, up to 30 |
| Characters and References | Yes, by `@handle` |
| Output length | Follows the source |
| Output aspect ratio | Follows the source |
| Audio on the output | The source's own audio, restored after the render |
| Resolutions | 480p, 720p, 1080p (480p and 720p on Feather) |
| Modes | Motion transfer or object swap |
| Directions | Optional |

## Best for

* Putting yourself, a character, or a client into an existing clip
* Changing a location, outfit, or product without reshooting
* Keeping a real performance, dance, or camera move intact
* Restyling footage you already own

## An example prompt to start from

```text theme={null}
Replace the dancer with image 1, keeping the choreography, the camera move and the timing exactly as filmed.
```

Map each reference to its subject by position: "image 1 is the person on the left". One clear, front-lit photo per person is enough, and you can send up to 30 references: characters, outfits, props and places.

## Models

| Model | Best for |
| - | - |
| Magejutsu | The best recasts: sources up to 30 seconds, and the most references reach the render |
| Magejutsu Lite | Faster and cheaper: sources up to 15 seconds, and up to 9 references reach the render |
| Magejutsu Feather | The cheapest and fastest: motion transfer only, 480p or 720p, sources up to 15 seconds, and up to 8 references reach the render |

## Modes

| Mode | What it does |
| - | - |
| Motion transfer | Keeps the motion, camera, cuts and timing, and rebuilds who performs it (and the place, if you send one) |
| Object swap | Changes only what your references point at and keeps every other part of the shot as filmed |

Magejutsu prepares the source for the mode itself; there is nothing else to set. Directions are optional: without them, the director maps your references to the clip on its own.

## Limitations

* Sources run 4 to 30 seconds, and the result matches the source length and shape.
* It edits footage rather than inventing it, so a source clip is required.
* The result is billed in Gems on every plan.

## Use via API

Magejutsu is available through the [Mage API](https://docs.mage.space/api/overview.md) as the `magejutsu` architecture. Its fields, tokens, defaults, and price are on [its API reference page](https://docs.mage.space/api/models/magejutsu.md).
